CONFIDENTIALITY
We ask that you do not discuss people outside the group or if you see each other outside of the group say hello but do not acknowledge where you know each other from unless you know its ok to do that. If one of you is with someone you may not want that person to know that you attended the group.
TIMING
We start the group and end the group on time. If you do arrive late, come into the group as quietly as possible so as to not disturb what is being said. If you need to leave early it can be helpful if you say so earlier so that no-one is surprised when you leave.
GUIDELINES
We don’t think its particularly useful to talk about calories or certain food items/groups for a length of time and that it seems more beneficial to talk about your experiences, thoughts, feelings, or knowledge regarding the services available, which people can benefit from etc…
It is also important to remember to be responsible for yourself, don’t talk about things you don’t want to and then this allows people to ask questions to which you are perfectly entitled to say that you do not want to answer them. This is a good thing and shows you are taking responsibility for yourself.
We suggest that it is helpful to avoid saying things that are personal about someone else. For example, many people find it hard when someone comments on their appearance - even when it is meant well.
It is always going to be the case that something might be said that may be triggering for you. It may not be for other people but this does not mean that it makes the effect on you any the less. It is important that people talk about what is happening for themselves. Should something be said that you find triggering for you it is fine (and often very helpful) if you want to talk about this. Others may benefit from hearing about how you feel. Remember ... what you choose to say or not say is up to you!
Finally, it usually seems more beneficial to talk in terms of ‘me’ and ‘I’ rather than ‘we’ or ‘one’. However, this our suggestion and it is up to you how you refer to yourself.
